Available in austenitic, ferritic, duplex and martensitic grades. Plate service centres offer bending, sawing, welding, machining, laser cutting, plasma cutting and waterjet cutting. Stainless steel hot-rolled black coils are made by hot rolling of slabs, and most of such coils are supplied to re-rollers. Hot-rolled no.1 coils are made of hot-rolled black coils by annealing and pickling, and they are supplied to plate cutting companies, pipe makers, and cold rolling companies. What does it mean by grade 250 steel?

It is a carbon steel flat product normally in plate or coil form with with a minimum yield strength of 250 MPa.. It is one of the most commonly used steel grades.

What are the benefits of grade 250 steel?

  1. Cost-effectiveness- it is probably one of the basic mild steel with lower cost.
  2. Weldability- Grade 250 mild steel is easy to weld.
  3. Formability- Medium tensile and yield strength with good elongation makes this material easy to form.
OUR DIMENSION CAPABILITIES:

Chemical Composition (Maximum %)*

The chemical composition for Grade 250 steel varies slightly depending on the applicable Australian and New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS 1594 for hot-rolled coils and AS/NZS 3678 for structural steel plates).

Element HA250 (AS/NZS 1594)
Coil / Thin Plate
Grade 250 (AS/NZS 3678)
Heavy Structural Plate
Carbon (C) 0.20% 0.22%
Manganese (Mn) 1.20% 1.70%
Silicon (Si) 0.03% (Typical) / 0.35% (Max) 0.55%
Phosphorus (P) 0.040% 0.040%
Sulfur (S) 0.030% 0.030%
Aluminium (Al) 0.10% 0.100%
CEQ (Carbon Equivalent) 0.39% 0.39 – 0.44% (Varies by thickness)

* Note: Values represent guaranteed maximum percentages based on cast/product analysis unless otherwise specified. Carbon Equivalent (CEQ) is based on the IIW formula.

This steel is carbon steel, rather than alloy steel, as it does not contain large amounts of elements – like chromium or molybdenum. Known as ‘low carbon steel’, it typically has from 0.05% to 0.25% carbon content by weight. (It would be classified as cast iron if any more carbon were added.)

With low levels of both carbon and other alloying elements, mild steel has a number of distinct characteristics that make it a beneficial choice of material for a range of applications.
